Dr.Federico Sarabia became the first Filipino optometrist after graduating from Northern Illinois University. His burning desire to serve our countrymen brought him back home to Iloilo City, where he established the first optical clinic in the Philippines.
By 1908, Dr. Sarabia opened his second location along Escolta – the premier business district of Manila serving distinguished clientele, including past presidents and the family of our national hero, Jose Rizal.
Dr. Sarabia became the first President of the Philippine College of Optometry and was later appointed by President Quezon as chairman of the Optometry Board of Examiners.
The passion of Dr. Sarabia for serving the Filipino vision has left behind a legacy nurtured and built upon by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
